Synopsis

Jung-mi, a mediocre actress in her late thirties, gets by with small acting roles and dreaming of one day making it big.
She one day comes upon an independent film in which she gets to play the leading role and finds the assistant producer drawing
closer to her.
Meanwhile, Byung-man, with his balding head and growing belly, dreams of going out with a girl just like everybody else and live
an ordinary life. But that’s not so easy for him.
One day, he finally mustered up his courage to confess his secret love to Song-i, his coworker at the gas station. This throws him
into a whirlwind of awkarrdness …

기형적인 모던화가 진행되던 1930년대, 소설 날개의 <나>는 애초에 있지도 않은 날개로 날아보고자 하며, 있었는지 조차 의심스러운 자신의 존재에 대한 야심을 회복하려 한다.
이 작품은, 이상의 <날개>를 원전으로 하여, 현대의 공간과 소리안으로 1930년대의 텍스트를 끌고들어와,시간과 공간을 초월한 자아의 혼란과 분열을 이야기하고자 하였다.

2009년, 현대인이라 일컫는 사람들은 스스로 발을 땅에 디디고 힘차게 살고 있다고 착각하지만, 결국은 자본 종속적이고 문화 기생적으로 살아가고 있을 뿐이다.
이상의 <날개>가 드러냈던, 암울한 시대에 거국적이지 않은, ‘나’의 근본적이고, 현실적인 분열은,
현재를 사는 나에게도 유효한 발언권을 가진 이야기라 생각하였다.
해서 이 작품은, 현대어로 각색되지 않은, 그 당시의 원문 글자들을 가져와서 현대의 배경과
합성하고, 선형, 비선형적인 이야기의 낭독을 통해 공간과 시간, 텍스트를 몽타쥬하였다.
우리가 고전이라 부르는 것들도 당대에는 대중문화의 소비재 였음을 기억하고,
과거이야기를 현대의 시각화 기법으로 그려내고 대입하여 낯설게 하려는 의도로 만들었다.

In 2009, the so called modern people are possessed with an adamant illusion that they live by themselves.
However, they just live with a subordinate of capital and parasites of culture.
In 1930s when abnormalities of the modern era had progressed, the narrator in the novel The Wing, tried to fly
without wings, and tried to recover ambition to figure himself out whether he exists or not.
This art work is based on The Wing by Lee, Sang, and we set this story in modern space and sounds which made the story
different. The original script of the novel is compounded with modern sceneries.
The linearly/nonlinearly reciting story montages modern space sounds.
We made this work with a purpose of substituting the story of the past with visualization of modernity, and recalling what we
used to call the Classic in those modern times.
The reason I focused on The Wing is that the novel still validates current day exposing fundamental and actual division
of the main character.

지금 여기, 허밍

도종환 시인님의 시, 흔들리며 피는 꽃을 주제로 한 영상으로,
‘지금 여기,허밍’이라는 코모의 전시 프로젝트에 전시 되었습니다.
이 전시에서는 시를 직접 지은 도종환 시인님을 비롯,영화감독, 배우, 일반 시민들의 목소리로 낭송한 시와, 영상이 함께 전시되었습니다.

Right here, there is a humming heard through the wind like a warm spring day.
COMO is opening a public multimedia poem reading in front of the audiences, ‘city.’ Starting with the poem ‘Flowers Blooming Shakily’ by poet, Jong Hwan Do, the voices of Seoul citizens become the humming and the texts become the images, making a small echo in this busy city.
Each poem, recommended by poets, will be carried through the voices of the citizens in COMO lab and become new media art in spring, summer, fall, and winter of 2008.

종군 위안부 할머니들의 비극적인 삶을 실험적인 영상을 통해 보여주는 다큐멘터리.
과거 전쟁의 이미지와 여인들의 모습, 일본 군인들의 잔혹상, 그리고 종군 위안부 할머니들의 증언과 텍스트를 토대로 기존의 다큐멘터리가 지닌 기록적인 성격을 탈피하며, 있는 그대로의 역사적인 사실을 재현하기 보다는 관객들의 감성과 느낌에 호소하는 독특한 방식을 취하고 있다. 50년의 침묵을 깨고 비극의 역사에 대해 발언하기 시작한 위안부 할머니들의 이야기를 그들의 육체와 육성의 증언을 통해 역사의 기록으로 담아내고 있는 작품.
할머니들의 증언 비디오에 담긴 영상과 음성을 해체해 음성을 문자 텍스트로, 영상을 정사진의 이미지로 재배치하였다. 디지털 테크놀로지를 활용해 이미지와 문자 텍스트, 소리의 해체, 재구성을 통해 이 다큐멘터리는 잊혀져가고 있는 과거의 역사를 다시 조명한다.

An experimental documentary depicting the tragic lives of old women who were forced to be sexual slaves by Japan. By using imageries of the war, women, and the brutal Japanese soldiers, along with testimonies of the old women and texts, this film goes beyond a typical documentary, not to only reproduce the facts of the past, but to appeal to the emotions of the audience. The film contains the tragic historical records of sexual slavery through the testimonies and physical evidence of the old women who broke their silence after 50 years.
This film experiments with various means by taking the videos of the testimonies and displaying the audio as texts, and using video as still images. It uses digital technology to reassemble dismantled images, texts and sounds to attempt to revive a part of history that is being lost in time.
